Faq Help Center
Answers to some common questions about Robot Quill Revolution, including how we work, what you can do with our stuff, and what to do if there’s any problems with your orders.
What are you on about?
Read our manifesto first!
For us, difficulty is much more about range, rhythmic complexity, and part independence. Anything labeled grade 1 here will keep clarinets below the break and have only quarter notes, eighth notes, and the occasional dotted quarter eighth pair. But if you can teach kids the first five notes of a Bb or D scale, you can teach them the first five notes of a B or Eb scale just the same.
We believe in starting every instrument from the beginning of playing, and we believe in giving them music that keeps everyone going. If the tubas don’t have an interesting part once in a while they’re not going to be tuba players for very long.
We’re working band directors. We get it. Read the full copy policy here, but the short version is if you buy it, you can make the copies you need for your band or orchestra, including scores. You can’t make copies for someone else’s band or orchestra.
compatibility, commissions, & More
Sure! We plan on offering flex band/flex orchestra versions of our pieces in the future, and in the meantime permission to rescore is part of our license for every piece we sell. Please let us know what pieces you’d like to see in flex band/flex orchestra first!
At the moment, no. We’re a small operation mostly focused on putting out the best music we can. However, if you’d like to see our pieces released for SmartMusic or other software, please let us know! If there’s enough demand we’ll make it happen.
Because we’re an independent. As much as much as we would like to and hope to do so in the future, right now we don’t have the budget to hire real musicians to record our works. We also don’t have the knowledge/skill yet to produce better sounding synthesized versions either. Buy our stuff, and as soon as we can we’ll get good recordings done!
Likewise, we are absolutely open to trading pieces and/or commissions for recordings. If you have a really good group and access to professional quality recording, and you’d like to make a deal, please email us at bryan@robotquill.com or emily@robotquill.com.
Yes you can! Both of us are available for commissions! Please email us at bryan@robotquill.com or emily@robotquill.com. Rates typically start at $200 per minute of finished music, plus adjustments for difficulty, instrumentation, etc.
Great! We want to listen to you! We are accepting composers, both previously published and brand new! Please reach out at submissions@robotquill.com and let’s talk. We offer reasonable commission rates, creative freedom, and most importantly you retain full ownership of any music you create and release under our label.
orders, delivery, & returns
Currently we offer digital download and print copies of all our publications. Digital editions are delivered as 1200dpi, 100% drm free pdfs. Print editions are currently offered on high quality 8.5″x11″ (US Letter) sized paper with a full set of parts. We hope to offer more printing options, including 9″x12″, in the future.
We are open to trading a tabloid format laser printer for music.
We accept all major credit cards, paypal, venmo, money orders, and business checks (including school districts), along with good old fashioned cash, especially if you see us at a convention or are local to one of us. Please no personal checks or crypto at this time.
Yes we do! When you check out, select “purchase order” as your payment method and one of us will reach out to you with the next steps. Please note that all purchase orders must be paid within 30 days of invoice date or face substantial late charges.
Physical copies will be shipped as soon as we are an approved vendor with your organization. Digital downloads will only be provided after purchase orders are paid in full.
That depends on what delivery option you choose and how you pay. Digital orders (or the digital part of digital+print orders) are ready for immediate download if you pay directly, ie by card, paypal, venmo, or cash. Digital orders paid for via purchase order will be available once the purchase order is received and paid. For print orders, please allow 1-2 weeks for shipping and delivery. We’ll try to go faster, but at the moment all print copies are print on demand and handled by two working band directors. Your patience is appreciated.
Well the music doesn’t like you either! So there!
More seriously, all sales are final on digital and digital+print editions. For print editions, email us and send us back the music within 30 days for a refund of purchase price, minus a 10% restocking fee.
If there is something wrong with your digital or print order, such as missing parts, please let us know asap and we will send you whatever is missing.
