Robot quill revolution publishing policies

COPYING, PERFORMING, AND ARRANGING POLICIES
We’re both working band directors. We’ve taught in cash strapped programs and areas. We get it. And so we’ve created a copying policy for all of the music we publish that we hope works for you while respecting our composers’ financial and copyright interests. It’s the copy policy we’d want when we buy music for our groups. Note that this only applies to copies of the music legitimately purchased from us.

  • You can make as many copies as you want for your group.
    • This includes scores!
  • You CANNOT make copies for other groups, such as other schools in the same district, your friends, that random concert band obsessive on the corner, etc. They need to buy their own editions of our pieces.
  • You can make digital versions available to your performers, IF AND ONLY IF:
    • Each performer only has access to their part
    • No performer has access to all parts
    • No parts are on any site or repository that is accessible to the general public
  • If you leave your organization (such as changing schools), if the organization purchased it, the purchased music must stay there. If you purchased it, you must take the music AND ALL COPIES with you.

You can create not for profit audio and video recordings and display them on your organization’s website, social media, etc. For profit recordings and performances require a separate license from us.

And finally, you have limited permission to arrange our pieces:

  • You are allowed to simplify provided parts to accommodate performers with special needs and/or limited abilities.
  • You can create one to one, adjusted for octaves appropriate for the instrument, transposition of existing parts to accommodate instruments that are missing from the purchasing entity’s ensemble.
  • Substantial changes to the music, including but not limited to changing harmonizations, melodies, key, or type of performing ensemble are prohibited. If you wish to make these kind of changes, please contact us for a separate licensing agreement.

GENERATIVE AI POLICY
We don’t like generative AI
Robot Quill Revolution Publishing does NOT approve of generative AI, as we feel it devalues human creativity, makes people intellectually lazy, and is an incredible waste of resources. As such, we are a 100% free (to the best of our ability) shop.

  • No generative AI is used in the writing of any music published by us.
  • No generative AI is used in the creation of our sample audio materials.
  • No generative AI is used in the creation of any logo, merchandise, or cover art.
  • No generative AI is used to code any portion of our website.

We can’t control if the software we use was created (in whole or in part) by generative AI, but we do our best to support companies and projects that do not use it.
